Action Items: Overview

Within the Safetylogic system, Action Items are used with several of the modules. Action Items can then be reported on, using several of the Safetylogic reports. You can track how many Action Items have been generated, what the action to take is, how many action items have been completed (and what the resolution was), and how many still need to be completed. There are even e-mail features on the system that alert users telling them they have open action items.

Your action items are listed in your Open Items List. In front of the action will be information letting you know where the action item was generated.

For example, within the Audit/Self-Assessment area, Action Items get generated automatically for each "non-preferred" answer that was selected, when an audit is submitted.

Action Items are also used within the Meeting area - as action items can be recorded and tracked using the meeting area on the Safetylogic system.

Finally, Action Items can be distributed within the Safetylogic hierarchy. If someone is at the top of the hierarchy (at the Company level) they can distribute an action item to anyone at the company - and that action item would appear on that users open items list (and an e-mail notification would be sent to the users). If an employee is at the Regional level within the Safetylogic hierarchy they can distribute an action item to anyone at the regional level, or anyone at the site level. Finally, an employee at the lowest level, the site level, can generate a personal action item, or an action item for others at the site level.

Action Items: Documenting Opportunities and Improvements

Action items can be generated from assessments completed or meetings tracked within Safetylogic. Additionally, any Safetylogic user can manually create action items and Administrative users can distribute action items to others. This allows for tracking and documentation of efforts undertaken to communicate or remedy safety-related issues. As with the other Safetylogic features, the Safetylogic program can be used for tracking and documenting non-safety-related issues as well.

The Impact of Tracking Corrective Actions

"What gets measured, gets done" is an old cliché, but one that is proven time and again in safety management. In a recent study, hazard prevention and control was determined to provide the best cost-to-benefit ratio for safety program activities. Key to hazard prevention and control is the ability to track all efforts to correct identified hazards.
